Are Carbohydrates Really My Enemy?

Many people associate eating carbs with gaining weight, leading them to believe they have to cut them out completely. I'm here to tell you that this is false! Eating in a caloric surplus (taking in more calories than you expend) is what leads to weight gain, and this can happen while eating only fats and protein too.

Why Carbs are Crucial for Your Body

Carbohydrates are essential for a healthy lifestyle because carbs = energy. They are vital for the neurons in your brain and for the production of red blood cells. Without them, your body can't function properly.

How to Incorporate Carbs into Your Diet

Be sure to include an adequate amount of carbs in your diet. The recommended amount is 55-60% of your daily total calories. These should come from a variety of sources, including:

  • Fruits

  • Vegetables

  • Grains

  • Starches

Carbohydrates are not your enemy. When eaten in moderation, they play a beneficial and crucial role in your body. So, the next time you think about having a snack or meal with carbs, don’t sweat it. Enjoy your food!
